Municipal transport and services
Depot for municipal transport
(At present only on special occasions)
A museum as comprehensive as the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin cannot ignore the history of municipal transport and services.
Which type of transport has been trying to come to terms with people's desire to travel within the city, a demand which has been constantly growing for the past 150 years? How exactly did cities deal with large destructive fires? How long did it take until public water supply and sewers were capable of banishing epidemics in cities? Other public services - post, police and city sanitation - are also closely involved in the development of interesting technical solutions.
As the largest German city, Berlin not only served as the testing ground for many new types of vehicles, but was also an important production location for such companies as Daimler-Motorenwerke in Marienfelde, Orenstein & Koppel or the Deutsche Waggon-Union.
The future exhibition of scientific history and exciting urban history over a period of more than 200 years draws attention to the basic elements of everyday life, which are all too often ignored. This exhibition is currently only open to the public on special occasions.
The collection can be visited in the depot annually on September sundays.
