Meridian Circle

An elaborately restored Meridian Circle from the Observatory Bogenhausen near Munich, dating back to 1891, can be found in the reconstructed 19th century astronomer’s observation room. Further tools and other devices illustrate what it meant to undertake astronomical measurements at that time.

In the »Study of the Astronomer« the restored precision instrument is quite impressive; it represented, from the first half of the 19th century until far into the 20th century, one of the main instruments for astronomy having to do with measuring angles.
